Man has a special characteristic that is unique only to him out of all of creation:
إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِقٌ بَشَرًا مِن طِينٍ
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِي فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ
‘Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: “I am about to create man from clay; And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall down before him prostrate.’ [Saad:71-72]
Now this special characteristic can be explained with the above verse, as it becomes clear Man is such a special creation that he was given the Divine breath. And only after this divine decree, was the rest of creation ordered to prostrate before him. Before this point there was nothing special about Man. A creature made of clay. Life-less. A sign of degradation and un-nobleness. But not when endowed with a soul; and WHAT a soul! And when this soul is nourished and trained, the result is one deserved of prostration by Allah’s closest beings. Not all of humanity deserve this respect and honour, as I’ve mentioned in previous posts.
يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
(To the righteous soul will be said:) “O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction!’[Al Fajr-27]
The righteous will be welcomed to a life free from pain, sorrow, doubt, struggle, desire and disappointment. They will be at rest, in peace, in a state of complete satisfaction. This stage of soul is the final stage of bliss.
The state in which the soul seeks fulfilment of the lower earthly desires, transgressing the bounds prescribed by the laws of Allah, is called ammarah (commanding), and the self-reproaching soul that feels the evil of sin and resists it is called lawwama (reproaching); and the soul which has controlled and tamed all desires and surrendered to the will of Allah is called mutma-innah (contented).
Without the creation of Man, there would have not been a defining moment in existence that exposed the evil-doers from the true believers. Instead all would have remained in their current state of real worship (Angels) and hypocrisy (Iblis & Co.).
